Scholarship

The Lido Civic Club of Washington, DC Scholarship Program has been in place since 2000. Since its inception, the Program has awarded $1,136,000 to deserving students of Italian-American descent. Through the efforts of our members, supporters, benefactors, and so many others, The Lido Civic Club continues to embrace this legacy of educating our next generation so that they may seek to both improve the world we occupy and make proud our ancestors on whose shoulders we stand.

To qualify for consideration, students must meet all of the following requirements: be of Italian-American heritage, have a permanent home within 50 miles of the Washington, DC area, be pursuing an undergraduate degree at an accredited college in the United States, and have a demonstrated financial need.

The Scholarship application window for the Fall 2024 academic year opens on 1/1/24. All applications must be complete and submitted by midnight on 3/31/24. Any applications not completed and submitted by 3/31/24 will be unavailable for consideration. If your Application is to be considered for review, you will be notified and contacted for an interview by the end of April 2024 which is the final part of the application process. Scholarship Recipients are expected to attend the Annual Scholarship Reception typically held the third Thursday in June and will receive further information on that event once award determinations are made.

2023 Recipients

The Lido Civic Club of Washington, DC has awarded $118,000 in undergraduate scholarships to these deserving Italian American students. The Lido Civic Club, a group of Italian American professional men, was founded in 1929. It has awarded over $1,000,000 in college scholarships since 2004.

Max Bagileo

Max, a prior recipient of a Lido Scholarship, will be a Junior this Fall at Eastern University majoring in Bio-Chemistry where he has maintained a 3.96 GPA. His paternal ancestors hail from Avellino in the Campania Region of Italy.

Massimo Cannetti

Massimo will be entering his Freshmen year at the Community College of Baltimore. He is a graduate of Col. Zak Magruder High School in Rockville, MD where he maintained a WGPA of 4.25. His father hails from Sicily and his maternal and paternal ancestors are from Lazio and Sicily.

Amanda Fairbanks

Amanda, a prior Lido Scholarship recipient, is a rising Sophomore this Fall at Towson University where she is seeking a B.S. in Pre-Veterinarian. Her maternal ancestors come from the Campania Region of Italy. Amanda is this year’s recipient of The Madeline and Antonio Germanario Memorial Scholarship.

Vincent Fanelli

Vincent, a previous Lido Scholarship recipient, is going to be a Junior at George Mason University in the Fall. He is working toward a degree in Cyber Security Engineering. His paternal great grandfather was born in Riccia, Molise.

Nicole Farace

Nicole, a Dean’s List Student with a 4.0 GPA and past Lido Scholarship recipient, will be a Sophomore at the University of Maryland. She is planning a major in Finance. Her father’s relatives are from Apulia and Lazio.

Roman Farace

Roman will be entering the University of Maryland in the Fall as a Freshman after graduating from Glenelg High School with a WGPA of 4.39. His ancestors hail from the Lazio and Apulia Regions of Italy.

Stephanie Farace

Stephanie will be a Senior Terp at the University of Maryland majoring in Computer Science. She is a past Lido Scholarship recipient and is this year’s recipient of The Gastone Monticelli Memorial Scholarship. Her father’s family is from both Apulia and Lazio.

Matteo Fortini

Matteo is graduating from Montgomery Blair High School and will be attending University of Maryland Baltimore County in the Fall, majoring in Engineering. He is this year’s recipient of the Domenic F. Antonelli, Jr. Scholarship. His Italian roots are in the Lazio and Frosinone Provinces.

Shannon Gibbons

Shannon is a Sophomore at the University of Tennessee pursuing a degree in Business Analytics. Her maternal relatives hail from Lucca in Tuscany.

Gabriella Manziano

Gabriella is a rising Junior at Boston College majoring in Elementary Education and Applied Psychology. She plans to study in Rome for her Spring 24 Semester. She is the recipient of this year’s Loreto J. Clavelli Scholarship. Her father’s family is from Castelfranco in Benevento and Santomenna in Salerno.

Marianna Manziano

Marianna is graduating this year from Stone Bridge High School with at GPA of 4.43. She will be attending James Madison University in the Fall. Her ancestors are from Lucca in Tuscany.

Alexa Mulroe

Alexa will be a Junior this Fall at the University of Notre Dame and is majoring in Neuroscience and Behavior with a minor in International Development Studies. Her paternal ancestors are from the Calabria region of Italy.

Bella Mulroe

Bella is graduating from Marriotts Ridge High School where she earned a 4.7 WGPA. She will be pursuing a degree in Business at the University of Notre Dame as a Freshman. She is this year’s recipient of the Solazzo Caputo Trimboli Scholarship. Her relatives hail from Calabria

Charles Petro

Charles is graduating from Mount Saint Joseph High School and will attending The Catholic University of America where he will be studying Political Science and Italian. He will be a member of the Army ROTC while in school and is this year’s recipient of the Rosario (Roy) Argento Memorial Scholarship. His relatives come from Campania and Calabria.

Luke is a graduate of Our Lady of Good Counsel High School and will be a freshman at either Salisbury University or St. Mary’s College. His maternal grand-father was from the Abruzzo region and his maternal grand-mother was from the region of Lazio.

The Madeline and Antonio Germanario Scholarship: Nicole will be a Junior at the University of Pittsburgh and is majoring in Psychology and Neuroscience. Her maternal ancestors are from Campania.

The Loreto J. Clavelli Scholarship: Patrizia will be a Senior at the University of Notre Dame and is majoring in Neuroscience and Behavior. Her paternal ancestors are from Campania.

Annamaria is a graduate of Sidwell Friends School and will be a freshman at UMBC with a double major in Nursing and Anthropology. Her father and her paternal grandparents were born in Benevento and her maternal grandparents were born in Sorrento.

Sydney Pizza

The Angelo Caputo and Frank Trimboli Memorial Scholarship: Sydney is a graduate of Walter Johnson High School. During her senior year, she was dual enrolled at Montgomery College. She will be attending the University of Delaware pursuing a Bachelors degree in Business. Her maternal roots are from Salerno, Italy and Avellino, Campania, Italy. Her paternal roots are from Montella, Italy and Calabria, Italy.

Sofia Sergi

The Glickfield Family Foundation Scholarship: Sofia will be a Sophomore at Salisbury University and is majoring in Economics. Her maternal roots are from Salerno, Italy and Avellino, Campania, Italy. Her maternal and paternal ancestors are from Naples, Sorrento and Sicily.

Domenico Toscano

The Domenic F. Antonelli, Jr. Scholarship: Domenico will be a Senior at the University of Delaware and is majoring in Finance and Entrepreneurship with a minor in Italian. His paternal ancestors are from Antillo and Messina in Sicily.

Dominic is graduate of Bishop O’Connell High School in Virginia. His paternal and maternal grandparents emigrated from Sicily and Naples, respectively. He is a senior at George Mason University.

Matthew Fairbanks

Matthew is the recipient of the Madeline and Antonio Germinario Scholarship. Matthew is a graduate of Urbana High School in Maryland. He is a senior at The Catholic University and plans to major in Electrical Engineering. His great-grandparents emigrated from Lombardia and Campania. This scholarship is funded by Lido member and Past Lido Civic Club man of the year, Vito Germinario.

Nicole Fairbanks

Nicole is the recipient of the Domenic F. Antonelli, Jr. Scholarship. She is a graduate of Urbana High School in Maryland, and is now sophomore at the University of Pittsburgh with double major in Neuroscience and psychology; Nicole’s great-grandparents emigrated from Lombardia and Campania. This scholarship is named for Domenic Antonelli, who was a Lido Civic Club member for 30 years. Nick provided a significant financial contribution to help establish our scholarship fund.

Patrizia is a graduate from Stone Bridge High School in Ashburn, Virginia. She is a junior at Notre Dame University, pursuing a major in Neuroscience and Behavior. Her Italian roots on her father’s side are from Salerno, Campania.

Alyssa Marinaccio

Alyssa is a junior at the East Stroudsburg University. She graduated from Damascus High Schoool. Her Italian roots or her mother’s side hail from Sicily.

Gaia Mirien

Gaia is a graduate of Walter Johnson High School in Bethesda, Maryland. She is a Senior at the University of Maryland, College Park, with a double major in Communications and Psychology. Her Italian roots are on her maternal side from Vicenza, Veneto.

Asa Nugent

Asa is a freshman at Northern Virginia Community College. His Italian roots through are in Campania and Basilicata regions.

Chiara O’Neill

Chiara is the recipient of the Gastone Monticelli Memorial Scholarship; Chiara is a graduate of Fairfax High School in Virginia and is a Junior at Drexel University, majoring in mechanical engineering and computer science. Her Italian roots are from Naples, Sicily, Abruzzi, and Molise. This scholarship is funded by Lido member Claudio Monticelli.

Manuel Rettore

Manuel is a graduate of the James Hubbert Blake High School. He is a freshman at Muhlenberg College. His Italian roots are in the Veneto and Campania regions.

Paul Russo

Paul is a graduate of Oakton High School in Vienna, Virginia. He is a junior at Liberty University. His Italian roots though his father are from Rome, Lazio.

Sofia Sergi

Sofia is a graduate of Bethesda-Chevy Chase High School. She is a freshman at Catholic University. Her Italian roots through her parents are from Sicily and Campania.

Dominico Toscano

Dominico is a graduate of Margruder High School in Montgomery County, Maryland. He is a junior at the University of Delaware and majoring in finance and entrepreneurship. His father was born in Messina, Sicily.

Angelo Tundo

Angelo is a senior at the University of Maryland, Robert H Smith School of Business – His Italian roots are on his father’s side from the Chieti province in Abruzzi. He is the recipient of the Angelo Caputo and Frank Trimboli Scholarship named after late Lido Club President Angelo Caputo and lido member Frank Trimboli.
