The Lido Civic Club of Washington, DC Scholarship Program has been in place since 2000. Since its inception, the Program has awarded $1,260,000 to deserving students of Italian-American descent. Through the efforts of our members, supporters, benefactors, and so many others, The Lido Civic Club continues to embrace this legacy of educating our next generation so that they may seek to both improve the world we occupy and make proud our ancestors on whose shoulders we stand.
To qualify for consideration, students must meet all of the following requirements: be of Italian-American heritage, have a permanent home within 50 miles of the Washington, DC area, be pursuing an undergraduate degree at an accredited college in the United States, and have a demonstrated financial need.
The Scholarship application window for the Fall 2025 academic year opens on 1/1/25. All applications must be completed and submitted by midnight on 4/20/25. Any applications not completed and submitted by 4/20/25 will be unavailable for consideration. If your application is to be considered for review, you will be notified and contacted for an interview by the end of April 2025 which is the final part of the application process. Scholarship Recipients are expected to attend the Annual Scholarship Reception typically held the third Thursday in June and will receive further information on that event once award determinations are made.

2024 Recipients

Max Bagileo
Max, a prior recipient of a Lido Scholarship, will be a Senior this Fall at Eastern University majoring in Bio-Chemistry where he has maintained a 3.96 GPA. Max is this year’s recipient of the Domenic F. Antonelli, Jr. Scholarship. His paternal ancestors hail from Avellino in the Campania Region of Italy.
Nicholas DeSante
Nicholas will be a Junior at The College of William and Mary in the Fall where he majors in Public Policy and Economics and has maintained a 3.62 GPA. He is studying in Florence this summer where he will be taking Advanced Italian and Topics in Italian Culture. His paternal relatives are from Calabria and his maternal relatives are from Campania.
Amanda Fairbanks
Amanda, a prior Lido Scholarship recipient, is a rising Junior this Fall at Towson University where she is seeking a B.S. in Pre-Veterinarian. Her maternal ancestors come from the Campania Region of Italy. Amanda is this year’s recipient of The Madeline and Antonio Germinario Memorial Scholarship.
Elena Flaim
Elena will be majoring in Nursing as a Freshmen. She is currently choosing between Benedictine University and Franciscan University. Her paternal relatives are from Trentino-Alto Adige and her maternal relatives are from Lazio and Sicily.
Patrick Gannon
Patrick will be a Sophomore at Gettysburg College in the Fall where he will be majoring in Business, Management and Organizations. He plays soccer at Gettysburg. His maternal relatives hail from Sicily. Patrick is this year’s recipient of the Solazzo Caputo Trimboli Scholarship.
Shannon Gibbons
Shannon will be a Senior this Fall at the University of Tennessee pursuing a degree in Business Analytics. She has maintained a 3.55 GPA thus far. Her maternal relatives hail from Lucca in Tuscany.
Gabriella Manziano
Gabriella is a rising Senior at Boston College majoring in Elementary Education and Applied Psychology. She studied in Rome for her Spring ‘24 Semester and is currently working in Italy for the Summer. Her father’s family is from Santomenna in Salerno.
Marianna Manziano
Marianna is going to be a Sophomore at James Madison University in the Fall and is majoring in Communications Sciences and Disorders where she maintains a 3.48 GPA. Her ancestors are from Santomenna in Salerno.
Alexa Mulroe
Alexa will be a Senior this Fall at the University of Notre Dame and is majoring in Neuroscience and Behavior with a minor in International Development Studies. Her paternal ancestors are from the Calabria region of Italy.
Bella Mulroe
Bella is with her sister at Notre Dame and just completed her Freshman year. She is pursuing a degree in Business. She is this year’s recipient of the Loreto J. Clavelli Scholarship. Her relatives hail from Calabria.
Leonardo Passani
Leo is going to be a Freshman at Virginia Polytechnic Institute where he will be majoring in Engineering. He was born in Italy and migrated to the US at the age of 5. He speaks fluent Italian. His father his from Carrara in Massa-Carrara. He is the recipient of the Rosario (Roy) and Rosemarie Argento Memorial Scholarship.
Annalisa Russo
Annalisa is currently deciding between St. Joseph’s University and Duquesne University and is planning to major in Marketing as a Freshman. She is this year’s recipient of the Gastone Monticelli Memorial Scholarship. Her paternal relatives are from the Campania region and her maternal relatives from Abruzzo.
Sara Sadek
Sara is entering Virginia Polytechnic Institute in the Fall as a Freshman. She plans to study Business. Sara’s mother’s family is from Ercolano in Campania.

Matthew is the recipient of the Madeline and Antonio Germinario Scholarship. Matthew is a graduate of Urbana High School in Maryland. He is a senior at The Catholic University and plans to major in Electrical Engineering. His great-grandparents emigrated from Lombardia and Campania. This scholarship is funded by Lido member and Past Lido Civic Club man of the year, Vito Germinario.
Nicole Fairbanks
Nicole is the recipient of the Domenic F. Antonelli, Jr. Scholarship. She is a graduate of Urbana High School in Maryland, and is now sophomore at the University of Pittsburgh with double major in Neuroscience and psychology; Nicole’s great-grandparents emigrated from Lombardia and Campania. This scholarship is named for Domenic Antonelli, who was a Lido Civic Club member for 30 years. Nick provided a significant financial contribution to help establish our scholarship fund.

Angelo is a senior at the University of Maryland, Robert H Smith School of Business – His Italian roots are on his father’s side from the Chieti province in Abruzzi. He is the recipient of the Angelo Caputo and Frank Trimboli Scholarship named after late Lido Club President Angelo Caputo and lido member Frank Trimboli.
